A Look At How Providers Can Restore Consumer Confidence in Elective Medical Care

Sep 27, 2020 | Healthcare

Recently, Boston Consulting Group surveyed approximately 7,000 patients nationwide. They wanted to gauge consumer feelings about moving forward with elective medical procedures postponed due to COVID-19.

BCG sought to determine if people would resume physician visits and procedures done on an inpatient or outpatient basis.

Confidence in Elective Medical Care is Up

On a positive note, most survey respondents said they expect to reschedule their procedures within the next six months.

However, the survey also found that providers must communicate to patients about their procedures and assure them the facilities were free from coronavirus.

BCG found respondents indicated practitioners would need to use virtual and remote treatment options fully to engage patients. And not just during the immediate crisis, either. Moving forward, providers will be expected to continue to offer these digital options.

Growing Confidence in Elective Medical Care

Meanwhile, those who do not establish open lines of communication may find themselves losing cases to providers who make patients feel more secure.

Getting the word out is more important than ever, so partner with a marketing company familiar with the elective medical care industry. This will ensure your prospective patients understand more than the services you offer. They’ll see you’re following applicable guidelines and appropriate safety protocols.

According to the Harvard Business Review, the pandemic has created a bottleneck of elective medical procedures across the nation. It’s affecting hospitals and other health care systems.

In conclusion, don’t try to rush back into treating patients. Instead, carefully prioritize cases according to patient need and available resources. Moving procedures out of hospitals and into outpatient facilities or office settings, where feasible, can help streamline workload and increase patient volume.
