Coffee beans
Matthew Markham

For today’s Meet the Team blog, we get to meet Matthew. Matthew Markham serves as our Director of Search, bringing a sharp, data-driven approach to how LeadingResponse shows up in search and drives qualified traffic across every vertical we serve.

Over the years, he’s built a reputation for staying ahead of an ever-shifting search landscape, translating algorithm changes and industry trends into strategies that actually move the needle for clients. His approach reflects both technical expertise and a genuine curiosity about what’s next in search, something that keeps LeadingResponse competitive as the digital landscape continues to evolve.

Give me your 30-second elevator speech. Who are you, what do you do, and what are your goals?

Matt Markham, Director of Search, and my goal is to bring our search strategy into the generative AI era.

Who is your hero?

My grandmother, Ella

What is your biggest fear?

Snakes

What would you change about yourself if you could?

Sometimes a more thorough filter on my mouth would be nice.

What motivates you to work hard?

Myself. I enjoy completing a project.

Matt & Tucker

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Raising an adorable German boy named Tucker.

What is your favorite book?

Sharp Objects – Gillian Flynn

What makes you laugh the most?

Witty wordplay, usually surrounding some type of pop culture event or deep Reddit murder mystery. Or me embarrassing myself.

What did you want to be when you were small?

Veterinarian

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

Get paid Julia Roberts’ salary to perform her monologue from Erin Brockovich (I said, “Whose number do you need?”)

What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?

Video (games) – shoot em ups, horror, or medieval fantasy (no sports, sorry)

What would you sing at Karaoke night?

It depends on what type of bar I’m at. Millennial Bar – Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll – The Killers; Gen X crowd – Sign, Sealed, Delivered – Stevie Wonder; and Gay Bar – Lucky – Britney Spears

Do you like or dislike surprises? Why or why not?

Depends on the surprise, but in general no. A surprise puppy will never be turned away, however.

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?

80s

My favorite thing about my career is the ability to combine creative thinking and strategy with quantifiable results to support a hypothesis. I’m a mystery buff who loves to solve a crime, and the crime is frequently high CPCs.

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

Caffeine

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?

Dead, dead, living, dead.

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

Julia Roberts
